Who needs to find a missing person?

- Approximately 127,000 children are adopted in the U.S. each year. Adult adoptees have a need to know their identity, heredity, and medical history. Their search is not necessarily for a relationship but rather information about their identity. Adoptees are forced to live with the "unknown" about themselves.
- Biological families of adoptees. Birth parents often live with guilt and regret and have a need to know their child has had a better life than they could provide and they their decision to relinquish a child for adoption was in the best interest of the child. Their search is basically for peace of mind, and not necessarily for a relationship. Most birth parents fear that they may disrupt a child's life and are often reluctant to search because they don't want to do anything that would cause the adoptee a problem.
